Let's Talk Shell Games

"The new song 'Moving Day' by Shell Games dropped me off my chair.

I feel like she took my past, my feelings, my emotions, and put them into an amazing alternative-punk milkshake, and it was extremely delicious. A taste that few still manage to bring out in such a quality way.

The song starts with synths with a special sound, which immediately puts you in the mood. Tribal kick and precise and clear singing begin the first half of the verse, and immediately the rhythm and background voices come into action. I feel that it very quickly puts me in the vibe of the song, to my old times, and takes me on a journey together with the song. The chorus opens with many additional instruments, strums, excellent electric guitars, deep bass, and a catchy melody that brings out the singer's phenomenal singing abilities accompanied by harmonious vocals that vibrate the ears with satisfaction.

The song tells about a period of change, leaving the house, and returning the keys that symbolize a weight and even an anchor that held and stuck you in the same place for a very long time, and it's time to put the weight down and go out into life. We embark on a journey that is admittedly unclear and even scary, but this is our path, we trust ourselves in the unknown and we let the headlights lead us.

I liked the wit of the author who uses the word "keys" to describe the anchor, but also as playing the piano as a distraction.

I want to refer to the excellent mix, everything is heard clearly, balanced, and excellent, and on the second and third listens all the ear candy comes out nicely, the arrangement, the exciting little guitar solo, the stops in the last chorus that you are already so deep in the story, introduce this drive that jumps you even more, and of course, the last chorus where the main voice and the other vocals sing their words in a harmonic mess and funky chaos so special and innovative without harming the lead singer and it was just beautiful.

There is no doubt that Shell Games has brought such a strong message and a strong power to life, with a story that is relatable to each and every one. The song speaks directly to the listener's heart, at eye level, in the most authentic way, drawing us into their story and reminding us that we, too, have the power to change, if only we trust the path.

I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more from them."

I am speechless at the wonderful creation of Shell Games. So much so, that I had to hear it immediately again, and even then it took me a few minutes to find the right words to combine such a high-quality and clean production with such a strong, deep, and witty text.

I'll start with the production, the attention to detail, the waltz rhythm on an old-school rock-folk ballad, with a deep influence from timeless bands in history but still with innovations from the New Age and roots that can hardly be found in today's music. And I feel that all the instruments dance so beautifully with each other. the conversations between the bass, the guitars - left and right, the drums which serve as a strong and safe floor for them to dance on, the synths and even the strings are all in perfect harmony, and still so airy and clean, there is no congestion, everything is clear and allows a lot of space for the other instruments to shine separately.

In addition to all this, amazing vocals, soft and yet heartbreaking, sound so authentic, you feel that she sings every word from the heart, along with the voices that wrap the main vocals like a warm coat on a snowy day, adding another depth and layer to the harmony.

And the words, so deep and full of power, hit the heart most movingly and painfully possible. The meaning here is the main thing. You can feel the story, the guilt, the weakness with which we begin the song, turning itself into such great strength after we've gone through mazes of emotions, with hope, indifference, playfulness, stagnation, uplifting, and the best at the end, closing the circle causes catharsis with the strength and greatest of all, the victory.

I feel that this song changes the face of the game on so many levels, as well as its length, a little over 4 and a half minutes in a world where the listening, as well as the music, has dropped by more than half, and still, the song is fascinating every second and at the end, does not allow you to not go back and press play again. 

The production catches my ear, and the words catches my heart. There is no doubt that I'm mesmerized by this piece.

Shell Games are doing a great job, and I can't wait for the next one!
